The interests of the company and its partners can only be protected effectively through responsible action that observes ethical principles. These principles are laid out in our Code of Conduct, which contains principles of behaviour for all employees of the group. In our Code of Conduct, Bilfinger Berger takes a firm stand against corruption, bribery, self-serving practices and wastefulness within the company. We are resolute against illicit arrangements, illegal employment and undeclared work and promote social behaviour within the company. Furthermore, the Code contains clear conduct guidelines that also take into account the different conditions in the various countries in which we are active.
In addition to the Code of Conduct, we have established a comprehensive Compliance System. A network comprising the Chief Compliance Officer of the group and the designated Compliance Officers of operational divisions works to ensure that our Code of Conduct is applied. The Executive Board is kept informed about compliance development through immediate notifications and regular reports. In serious cases, the audit committee of the Supervisory Board is also informed.
Internal ombudsmen have been selected for the domestic and overseas companies. To complement their role, we have also appointed an external ombudsman who is available to anyone who suspects improper business practices within the company. The external ombudsman receives information and passes it on to the company. Persons who provide information can choose to remain anonymous.
