Abuja Stadium

In order to host the 2003 All Africa Games, the Nigerian capital Abuja needed a world-class sports stadium. Julius Berger Nigeria built it.

Ultra-lightweight sheeting suspended from a cable structure was used for the roof structure. It extends out over the two tiers of seating to protect spectators - the stadium can hold 60,000 of them - from the sun and rain.
