Gotthard Base Tunnel

Bilfinger Berger, together with partners from Switzerland and Italy, is constructing the technically very challenging 6.2-kilometer core stretch of the Gotthard Base Tunnel near Sedrun. At 57 kilometers, it will be the longest rail tunnel in the world.

The special challenges of the Sedrun Lot include boring through difficult geological zones and the servicing of the construction site via two 800-meter shafts. From there, two tube tunnels are being driven both northwards and southwards using advanced mining techniques.
